jenny baillie artworks - about the artist
I grew up with no artistic aspirations. The desire to paint emerged mid-life. I wanted to “focus on beauty” - and to hold on to the joy I experienced in the great outdoors.
Watercolour was my medium of choice. However, as I began to paint in larger format I tired of handling glass. In order to go “big” I switched to acrylic on canvas.
I use my immediate landscape as an inspiration although the subject is less important than the process. Often I pour the primaries, allowing the paint to do its own thing, before composing the image. I try to capture an “essence” rather than the reality. Every painting becomes a problem to solve.
The creative journey is an expansive one. For me it began slowly. Now to be obsessed and compelled is my preferred state.
